Hi, I propose the addition of the following names for use in surface flood models:

land_surfaceprecipitation_rate land_surface_water__elevation land_surface_water_flowfroude_number land_surface_water_flowmanning_n_parameter land_surface_water_flowx_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water_flowy_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water_flow__x_component_of_froude_number land_surface_water_flowy_component_of_froude_number land_surface_water_flowx_component_of_depth land_surface_water_flowy_component_of_depth

Hi Laurent,

Just piping in with a few suggestions for the new names you propose:

With regards to land_surface__precipitation_rate: There are a number of quantity names to identify precipitation rate; I am thinking you might be looking for the units with dimension length/time -- if so, this is represented as volume_flux in CSDMS so look for terms with precipitation_volume_flux The new construct you recommend would best match the pattern of the existing name: sea_surface_waterprecipitation_leq-volume_flux, so consider using either land_surface_waterprecipitation_volume_flux or land_surface_water__precipitation_leq-volume_flux (leq --> liquid equivalent)

For land_surface_water__elevation you may want to use land_surface_water_surface__elevation (which is an existing name).

Instead of land_surface_water_flowx_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water_flowy_component_of_volume_flow_rate you may want to use: land_surface_water__x_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water__y_component_of_volume_flow_rate

Maria,

Thanks for the prompt answer.

Indeed I was understanding volume_flux to be L³/T, not L/T. Thanks for the clarification.

For land_surface_water__elevation you may want to use land_surface_water_surface__elevation (which is an existing name).

Great, I missed that one, thanks!

Instead of land_surface_water_flowx_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water_flowy_component_of_volume_flow_rate you may want to use: land_surface_water__x_component_of_volume_flow_rate land_surface_water__y_component_of_volume_flow_rate

That makes sense, thank you.
