Logo Design #224

Open CamilingJS opened 1 year ago

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Thank you!

image

It looks good, but I feel like it should be a bit more friendly looking, and maybe have a fang or two somewhere - what do you think?

epicadidash commented 1 year ago

I think we should use a shortened icon logo rather than a full name logo

epicadidash commented 1 year ago

defaang io (1)

A proposed logo

epicadidash commented 1 year ago

Defaang A kind of logo but if accepted can be made into favicon

epicadidash commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS These are some of my logos , having more

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS

I think this one is a great start:

I wonder if we can put less stuff in the white space though?

Maybe start with this shape and combine it with the letter d or D somehow? Just an idea.

I'm very bad at drawing but this is a concept I was trying to just get the basic idea communicated on paper. Simple "DF" logotype, but treat the horizontal lines of the F as "fangs" and you can have one of them/both of them be "broken" or "snapped off"...could also indicate with a bandaid on one fang or something. Also had the wacky idea of making the "F" itself a snake coiling up to strike, with the vertical line being it's mouth and the horizontal lines being the two fangs (top right).

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Thank you @nateemerson!

I really like the F with the faangs snapped.

It'd convey everything we want to convey - taking the scary parts out of the FAANG+ interview process.

Although I am not good at digital art, I have prepared a rough sketch. The idea I’m trying to propose is detailed. The ‘D’ can be treated as a mouth consisting multiple fangs with a tongue. Let me know your opinions on this one!

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@vaishnavi-nawghare thank you for that, but I feel like it doesn't quite represent the defaang brand.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

I'll leave some comments on some of the design by @CamilingJS, @nateemerson.

First of all, I really like this one: image

It's friendly, has fangs, and it looks like it's smiling?

I wonder if there could be slight variations on it, though.

I'm thinking no gradient, less tilt, slightly different eye shapes, etc.

What app are you using to make it?

P.S.,

The fang snapping idea is cool but it might be a bit hard to make it work in reality - I'm open to it, too though. image

Anyway thank you so much for all the ideas! Super cool to see them and really appreciate all the time you put into it.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS hmm could you try the deepest color without the gradient and maybe 5-10 degrees less for the angle?

Or if you could put the raw file here, I'd be happy to try to make those changes myself, too.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS thank you! Any chance you could put it in an SVG format or something similar? I'm not sure if I have a way to open a .afdesign file.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Thank you! Comparing that one to the original one, I do like the gradient now: image

I'm having trouble with the SVG though, on Figma.

What app did you use originally?

adilwahla commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS Highly appreciate your Graphic designing skills <3

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS of course! Thank you.

I feel like this one's almost there:

image

Any chance you could make one of the fangs slightly larger (probably the one on the right) so they will look a bit more like fangs?

Or, alternatively, I guess I can get Affinity Designer and try that myself, too.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS thank you so much!!

One last thing - what do you think of changing DF to df to match how defaang is lowercased?

Does it look better when it's DF?

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Just tweeted this to get some feeback.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

planning to ask which one people like more on twitch and twitter: image

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Looks like people like 1 more on Twitch - still waiting for twitter

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

@CamilingJS it looks like people like the first one more though, both on Twitch and Twitter. Why don't we just go with the one they like more?

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Hmm I feel like that's a bit too cute and too complicated.

image

Based on the feedback we received from everyone, it seems like people like the first one with maybe slight modifications.

For example, I think this feedback might be valid: image

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

I think this feedback is trying to say, we should flatten the color, and stylize the text in general, not in the specific way Discord did it.

Here's the link to the tweet containing that feedback, just in case: https://twitter.com/reactive_dude/status/1578416656396988416

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

First of all, we don't have strict requirements for this. I think it's ok to be flexible.

The gradient is good in the current condition, but a flattened version could also work with a different color, I think - but it's hard to tell without seeing the specific color.

So far, we've received the best feedback on these two: image

So I think it's okay to go with one of these two, at the end of the day.

Ivanilson-Costa18 commented 1 year ago

My concern with the current design is that it doesn't fit the atmosphere of the page, I think that something with just the letters feels better like the current one, for example: image

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Right, totally understand.

It's just a challenge because it's hard to know what's going to work with the audience we're going to work.

I tried a Twitch poll again, and people seem to like the second one - which I like, too. So we could potentially go with it and see if it fits the current site.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

I think the second one fits the best. The font is a little too thick, and the icon can be a little smaller, though. It might be also good to play with the color a bit to see what works the best.

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

I think it looks good! Let's use lowercase, though.

CamilingJS commented 1 year ago

Here you go @ykdojo. Personally, I like it camel case but we can go with lowercase. Let me know if I can create a PR on this logo design. final_revisions_defaang

ykdojo commented 1 year ago

Looks good! I think the only thing is the color - what do you think is the best color for the current website design?
