There are two train of thoughts here -
It's a casual question asked for breaking the ice - In this case you can probably get away by saying anything.
The thoughtful answer - You should really give a thoughtful answer which tells the interviewer what kind of person you are. If you have a unique quality / trait / mindset by telling which you think you'd catch someone's interest, i'd say go for it.
Here are a few things to keep in mind -
Jatin already gave a decent explanation to this question. However my personal opinion deviate slightly from what he mentioned.
Yes, this question is asked for breaking the ice. Wouldn't it be great if you could give it a nice break, when you do have the ability? Think about if you can make interviewer think "hmm... sounds Impressive!".
If you're really good at something and you think you have lot of interesting things to share, I'd say don't care too much about the time limit as long as you are expressing yourself to the point, and the next person seems interested. But, dont exploit this liberty too much, keep an eye contact with interviewer and limit yourself as soon as you realise they want to move on. In case, you have too much to share and it starts to get overwhelming then take sometime to analyse all you work and pick the best of your experiences.
This is good chance to express what you are good at and how much you have worked and what you have learned.
IMO, this is one of the important aspects, when you have got a good amount of skills and work experience to share.
But, if you dont have too much to share, then its fine too, in that case, keep it simple and short as jatin said in his answer.
What points should we tell to the interviewer when asked about "Tell me about yourself"
