Installation, Configuration, and Updating

Follow given steps to prepare your workspace.

Required Softwares and Tools

• Download and install Visual Studio Code
• Download and install Git
• Download and install GitHub Desktop

  Setting up Environment

• Create GitHub account
• Fork SS17_AdvancedProgramming repository, you will git a copy of given repository as: "username/SS17_AdvancedProgramming"
• Once you have your own copy do following steps:
  • Open Git Application you have installed earlier
  • Check your current directory using command pwd
  • Create a folder using command mkdir AdvancedProgramming
  • Change your working director to AdvancedProgramming using command cd AdvancedProgramming
  • Create a folder by your group name e.g. "CS_NW_B03" using following command mkdir CS_NW_B03
    • Open Visual Studio Code and locate and open your working project folder as: Click on File -> Open Folder Locate your Repository you just created using Git and open it
  • Right click on "CS_NW_B03" click on New Folder name it as "Code" now right click on Code folder and click on New File name it as "First.java" and insert following code in to it.

Steps for committing and uploading your contribution

• Now go to your Git application and follow these steps
• Ensure that you are in the root directory of your repository
• Check to confirm your changes as: git status You will see the files your created or edited or deleted
• Add your files to git as: git add . \ this will add all your changed files
• Commit your changes as: git commit -m"Comments for your this commit"
• Now you are ready to submit your changes to your remote repository as: git push

Steps for adding friends

• Add your friend's repository as: I want to add Khyal Bacha to my repository to track his changes. First find his user name e.g. Khayalbacha is the user name of Khyal Bacha git remote add Khayalbacha https://github.com/Khayalbacha /SS17_AdvancedProgramming.git
• View their changes as: git fetch --all
• Add their changes to your local repository as: git pull
• Add back changes to your remote repository as: git push
