Soundfont Appendix G reallocation? #539

Closed tjingboem closed 3 years ago

tjingboem commented 3 years ago

i would like to add the important information on Soundfonts in the Appendix (https://csound.com/manual/MiscSf2.html) and how they work internally, to be added to https://csound.com/manual/SiggenSample.html#SiggenSampleSF This information seems a bit lost and hard to find if you are not aware of it, so it is better off imo when concentrated on the manual page on all the different Soundfont opcodes.

Also, i would like to add a nice image that shows the internal of the Soundfont, from sample to instrument to preset.

Please feel free to differ and provide some arguments.

The ones i would recommend are Swami http://www.swamiproject.org/download/ and Polyphone https://www.polyphone-soundfonts.com/download These 2 are free for download and multi-platform.

Mentioning these with their links can be done in one line, perhaps at the bottom of the page?

proposal for the image explaining the soundfont SF

It can be understood with the accompanying text: "The most basic kind of generator object is a sample. Samples may or may not be be looped, and are associated with a MIDI note number, called the base-key. When a sample is associated with a range of MIDI note numbers, a range of velocities, a transposition (coarse and fine tuning), a scale tuning, and a level scaling factor, the sample and its associations make up a “split.” A set of splits, together with a name, make up an “instrument.” When an instrument is associated with a key range, a velocity range, a level scaling factor, and a transposition, the instrument and its associations make up a “layer.” A set of layers, together with a name, makes up a “preset.” " comments are welcome
