Topic: Political polarization and democratic erosion
Question: Does political polarization cause democratic erosion?
How to study: use social media data such as Twitter to study the level of polarization. See if political polarization changed over time. Compare the Twitter data with an online open-ended survey or traditional survey. My hypothesis is that there may be a discrepancy between Twitter users and the general population if we can get a representative sample.
From the group, my question may be too broad. So, I am thinking about narrowing it down by selecting a country to work on.
Comments:
Establishing a causal relationship would be too difficult.
How to incorporate computational methods to study the topic?
