no coverage reported since 1 year #2457

Since we updated the ci to run in a tmp dir, codecov didn't find the coverage report but failed only silently resulting in a passed CI without coverage checks

Reopening. Merging #2458 did not fully fix the issue.

Neither codecov nor coverage.py seem to be able to match the code filenames of the src code and are only reporting coverage for the python files included in the docs/ directory.
