There is substantial effort in DPCTF to develop and refine device query and capability codes. There is an existing ATSC standard that touches on this and which currently is under further development. This effort originated several years ago to inform the EPG for ATSC 3.0; ongoing efforts attempt to satisfy the EPG requirement and ALSO to support device query by Broadcaster Apps (per A/344). My reading is that the work in DPCTF is better suited to the latter. Do we want convergence? If so, how will we accomplish this? In our favor, ATSC already acknowledges WAVE for Interactive/OTT (A/344), so this would be easy if we were not so late. [Note. ATSC is not the only entity to which we should consider outreach on this topic.]
