You Should Use a Private Email on Publications | Biopragmatics

While we were recently preparing to submit a manuscript, the lead author said they looked at my last few papers and noticed I always used a private email address instead of an institutional email address. They asked, perplexed, if they should also use my private email address with our submission. The answer was a resounding yes; always use a private email address. Here’s why.

I completely agree. It's annoying and frustrating that a lot of institutions do not forward emails. That would be a simple and cheap and satisfying solution for everybody. I got my first email address from EMBL which lasted almost 15 years until some later institution suddenly refused to delete my email account and NOT forward emails (to embl.org or whatever) anymore.

Always ASK if your institution forwards but better don't even use it -- use a stable private email.

Update, leaving Harvard now, it appears that there is no possibility for email extension nor forwarding unless you're a PI on a grant. Good thing I barely ever used this email!
