cubian-smplayer does not show subtitles #401

I'm running cubian-smplayer that was installed in the cubian VGA image. I'm playing a .mkv file but if I load a subtitle it is not shown.

In menu Subtitles -> Select -> ... I can see the file name of my subtitles is checked. Also the item in Subtitles -> Show subtitle is checked.

I also ran cubian-smplayer from the shell to see if I get more debug output, but it doesn't print any error message.

Also if I run cubian-smplayer -sub <subtitle_file> <mkv_file> I don't get any subtitle nor any error message.

Does it happen only to me?

i just wonder if you have tried smplayer? does it also happen?

sorry,

I realized I made a mistake: I meant cubian-smplayer (i.e. the smplayer linked in the LXDE app menu) not cubian-mplayer. I updated my issue text.

I am using the supplied SMplayer as well as the command-line mplayer application , neither shows subtitlies or the OSD.

You need to recompile mplayer for OSD support and it's troublesome. I compile mpv instead and it works smoothly.
