Update to newer kernel? #451

Hi,

Are there plans to upgrade the Cubian kernel to something more recent than 3.4? For example 3.16 as used by the most recent Debian?

The reason why I'm asking is that I'm building a smart NAS using a Cubianboard 2 and version 3.4 of the kernel doesn't cope well with USB drivers bigger than 2TB.

Thanks in advance, -Roberto

According to sunxi wiki, mainline kernel lacks many drivers and features for support of sunxi devices. Sunxi kernel, in opposite, have much more needed features, and regardless being 3.4 have many backported parts from higher versions. So update to higher version is not needed and maybe even impossible for now.

But for those that want the newer kernel that dont need all drivers should there be some way to update via the cubian-update tool to download and use the new kernel at our own risk ?

For anyone that wants to update to a newer kernel can do it here

http://dl.danand.de/cubieboard/

just follow the instructions here

http://dl.danand.de/cubieboard/readme.txt

still think there should be a beta option for the kernel

uname -r 3.4.106-sun7i+

atleast i got a newer kernel been riding my ass off for the last year with the same old kernel
