It's been roughly 90 days since opening this issue. We apologize if we haven’t gotten back to you—research openings are somewhat sporadic, so sometimes we don’t have specific opportunities to offer. But more will certainly come in the future! If you're still interested in doing reasearch with us, please respond with "Still interested for <semester/summer>". Additionally, please update the issue by editing it and supplying us with more information, an updated resumé, etc. If you're no longer interested, do not respond to this thread and we will automatically close this issue.
Note. Before applying, make sure you can receive notifications from Github. Once you apply, make sure you're subsribed to receive emails when someone responds to the issue. We will respond to your application on Github first so it's important that you receive notifications to it and respond quickly.
We are thrilled that you're interested in research in our research group! Please fill out this issue template. When you submit it, we will get a notification in our group chat. Please include any relevant details you can think of! Here are examples of filled out templates for reference.

Research
When do you want to do research? (Researchers can get involved during the semester as an "extracurricular", equivalent to a 3-4 credit class, or get more involved over the summer as a full-time job.) Fall 2023/Spring 2024, Roughly 3 Credit hours
What is exciting to you about research? (How did you get interested in it? What are you hoping to get out it?) After doing an internship over the summer, I revisited some of my older projects that were more academic and wanted to do more work that was not purely for the industry. I am looking to gain more experience as well since my senior year course load is somewhat lighter than my junior year courseload and I would love to do more projects outside of class. Also, opportunities to work with people while coding is a big plus.
What kind of research do you want to do? (It's OK to say, "I don't know; I'm looking to explore!") I am interested in research for programming languages. At the beginning of the summer, I got interested in learning about Rust since many people rate it so highly due to its security and fast performance. I would love to dive deeper into that niche.
Background
Note: While these questions are optional for first & second year students, we highly encourage everyone to respond to them. Third & fourth year students are required to respond to all questions.
Was there a paper that particularly excited you? (This doesn't have to be a paper from our group.) A paper from Professor Andrew Myers entitled "Jif 3.0: Java information flow" caught my eye due to it being a language that adds on top of Java more security and privacy. It reminded me a lot of Rust, where the syntax of Rust is very C-like, but still innovates greatly in other areas that make it entirely different.
Which of the current research projects would you be interested in working on and why? Hardware Accelerator Generation. This group most resonates with why I was interested in programming research as it focuses on how to build upon existing technology for safer and more secure languages. Specifically Dahlia is the most interesting, and I would love to learn more about it.
Anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I like reading about history, especially early medieval-era books.
