## Personal Details **Name: Yoshiaki Kanematsu** **Undergrad** **Year in Cornell: Class of 2027 / Sophomore** **Relevant classes: CS 2110, ECE 2100, ECE 2300** **Expertise (languages/frameworks/etc.): Python and Java** ## Research **When do you want to do research?** Fall semester 2024 for credit **What is exciting to you about research?** I'm excited by the challenge of solving complex problems, the process of discovery, and contributing to new knowledge. Research will help me push boundaries and deepen my/our understanding of the world. **What kind of research do you want to do?** Anything that incorporates computer architecture or computer engineering. ## Background

Was there a paper that particularly excited you? https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=5209931 Research on the use of photonics in computer networks holds exciting prospects. They promise faster and more responsive technology such as more efficient video streaming, app usage, and overall better technology performance. I'm interested in this research because of how applicable it is to our daily lives. These advancements have the potential to enhance users' experiences with their devices and improve their quality of life.

Which of the current research projects would you be interested in working on and why? Geometry Types for Graphics Programming in Gator I was drawn to this project because of its emphasis on computer architecture in regards to enhancing visual accuracy in graphics software. I am interested in learning how to integrate mathematics into graphics software as well as Gator's innovative approach to managing geometric data types. Improving the accuracy and efficiency of graphics processing aligns with my interests in computer architecture and its role in optimizing both software and hardware interactions.

Anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I am a dedicated and diligent individual committed to achieving our research goals. I consistently go above and beyond and have a strong inclination for learning new things, tackling challenges, and collaborating with my peers. I am goal-oriented, willing to adapt, and possess a strong work ethic. My ability to stay on top of tight deadlines makes me a reliable team member.

Hi, @yk699—I imagine it's quite likely that you've found other interesting research to do in the intervening time, but I'm starting to look for some possible collaborators on a project about genomics processing. To be totally transparent, I originally tried recruiting MEng students at the beginning of the semester and got no bites—but I did write up this description of where we're going: https://capra.cs.cornell.edu/notes/pollen-meng.html

Anyway, you can obviously ignore the MEng-related stuff in there. Any chance this might appeal? If not, no big deal—I'm sure there will be other projects available sometime soon. Let me know if you're interested and we can chat.
