Research

When do you want to do research? (Researchers can get involved during the semester as an "extracurricular" or get more involved over the summer, when they treat research like a full-time job.)

I would like to get involved in research with Capra during this Spring 2020 semester.

What is exciting to you about research? (How did you get interested in it? What are you hoping to get out it?)

I am fascinated of the process of solving a problem, but then asking if there are any ways the proposal can be made more efficient or effective, or if there are any subsequent consequences of the proposed solution that can be mitigated using an altered or even completely new approach. I think research is the core of this process, and in doing research I would like to see if I can come up with new ways of thinking about problems, and contribute to our understanding of computer architecture.

What kind of research do you want to do? (It's OK to say, "I don't know; I'm looking to explore!")

I was really excited reading "Exploiting Temporal Redundancy for Live Computer Vision", and I would love to work on related projects that rethink current approaches for making CNNs more efficient. I would love to do the type of research that Dr. Sampson is involved with that eliminates redundancies and allows for ambiguity for a trade-off between speed and accuracy.

Optional Stuff

(Feel free to leave any of these blank.)

Was there a paper that particularly excited you? (This doesn't have to be a paper from our group.)

Exploiting Temporal Redundancy for Live Computer Vision

Is there a specific grad student or a project you're interested in working on?

The project from above! (Exploiting Temporal Redundancy for Live Computer Vision)

Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?

I have worked with Computer Vision and neural network architectures (for CV) for high school robotics and side-projects for fun, but I am new to research and am very willing to learn.

Thank you for considering me!

Attach a CV if you like.

Hi, Isaac! Thank you for getting in touch! To tell the unvarnished truth, it is a little early in your Cornell career for you get involved in most of the research projects we have ongoing. But there is always a chance that a perfect opportunity will arise—we will get in touch if so!

Hi Issac! If you’re still looking for research opportunities, can you email me at rnigam@cs.cornell.edu and we’ll setup a time to chat in person?

rachitnigam commented 4 years ago

@isaacaddis if you're still looking for a research position, feel free to open the issue.

Hi Rachit,

I'm currently looking for a research position, but I don't have permissions to reopen the issue.

Can I still reach out to you at that email address now?

Thank you, Isaac Addis

It's been roughly 90 days since opening this issue. If you're still interested in doing reasearch with us, please respond with "Still interested for <semester/summer>". Additionally, please update the issue by editing it and supplying us with more information, an updated resumé, etc. If you're no longer interested, do not respond to this thread and we will automatically close this issue.
