It's been roughly 90 days since opening this issue. We apologize if we haven’t gotten back to you—research openings are somewhat sporadic, so sometimes we don’t have specific opportunities to offer. But more will certainly come in the future! If you're still interested in doing reasearch with us, please respond with "Still interested for <semester/summer>". Additionally, please update the issue by editing it and supplying us with more information, an updated resumé, etc. If you're no longer interested, do not respond to this thread and we will automatically close this issue.
Note. Before applying, make sure you can receive notifications from Github. Once you apply, make sure you're subsribed to receive emails when someone responds to the issue. We will respond to your application on Github first so it's important that you receive notifications to it and respond quickly.
We are thrilled that you're interested in research in our research group! Please fill out this issue template. When you submit it, we will get a notification in our group chat. Please include any relevant details you can think of! Here are examples of filled out templates for reference.

Research
When do you want to do research? (Researchers can get involved during the semester as an "extracurricular", equivalent to a 3-4 credit class, or get more involved over the summer as a full-time job.)
I am looking for a research position for this upcoming summer (2022), and am extremely flexible on the times and durations in which I could work!
What is exciting to you about research? (How did you get interested in it? What are you hoping to get out it?)
As a student that recently developed a passion for computer science (after taking CS2110 first semester junior year), I am extremely eager to dive much deeper into the inner workings of computer science to better understand how the programs my future colleagues and I operate, as well as to simply become a better thinker and programmer! I view engaging in research as an incomparable chance to explore the elements of computer science that interest me most, while also getting to work alongside people who are just as passionate about the field as I am.
What kind of research do you want to do? (It's OK to say, "I don't know; I'm looking to explore!")
I am very flexible and eager to explore, but the field of computer vision and machine learning especially stands out to me!
Background
Note: While these questions are optional for first & second year students, we highly encourage everyone to respond to them. Third & fourth year students are required to respond to all questions.
Was there a paper that particularly excited you? (This doesn't have to be a paper from our group.) All of my computer science experience has been based in the classroom so far, but I have found all of my CS courses to be very inspiring.
Which of the current research projects would you be interested in working on and why? While I am eager to contribute to any of the current research projects that may have an opening, I find the Vision/System Co-Design projects to be the most interesting. More specifically, I find the "Customizing JPEG Compression for Computer Vision" to stand out most. These projects stand out to me most because I find the process of computers can "visualize" the world around the to be extremely fascinating. For example, I find it super intriguing to think that companies like Waymo utilize this technology to develop driverless cars, an area where even slight errors in calculation can impose devastating effects on civilians nearby. I am really eager to learn more about how computer vision works and contribute to a project with such a practical application to the growing field of computer vision.
Anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I am very very interested in a hands-on learning experience this summer and am super motivated to put all my effort in to learn as much as possible in the short amount of time that I could potentially be a part of the research group!
