The current status of N900 camera, from
http://lists.meego.com/pipermail/meego-dev/2011-February/481603.html
..............
14. Camera: gstreamer in Trunk now with pagesize
buffer-alignment build option. (theodor, 08:30:23)
15. Camera: showcase UI obs project 'meegocamera' was made to
depend-install everything still requiring changes to run our version
of qml_camera example (theodor, 08:30:35)
16. Camera: jtanskanen now working to submit qt-mtf changes
(theodor, 08:30:40)
17. Camera: bug 13410 (xvoverlay size limit) seem tricky, we
have verified working .37 builds from git-tree and in obs - but still
do not know what causes the issue. (theodor, 08:30:45)
18. Camera: .37 backport & patches to omap3isp were verified
to fix few of our issues, now examining abilities to improve
raw-sensor quality by manipulating drv defaults. (theodor, 08:30:50)
19. camera ui: Camera API doesn't provide way to set
viewfinder resolution. We are planning to implement support for that,
some API changes are needed for that. We are able to implement support
for camerabin backend only. In case of other backends(S60, custom
gstreamer camera pipeline) the new API calls will be ignored.
(joonasta, 08:31:46)
20. camera ui: Next: Release fix for BMC#13596(use xvoverlay
with QGraphicsItem instead of GLESv2 painter), release camera ui
showcase to handset repo(?) (joonasta, 08:31:56)
21. camera ui: Ongoing: Change camera ui as MTF application,
implement support for camera keys(zoom, capture button), fix
viewfinder resolution (joonasta, 08:32:03)

Some more comments on status of Camera (no video recording yet) on N900. Also,
there are two camera apps to choose from, the one from the Intel Tablet UX (
git://gitorious.org/meego-ux/meego-app-camera.git ) as well as the one from
Handset UX.

[04:47] <harha> I would like to hear opinnions about the Camera use case
[04:47] <jukkaeklund> me too
[04:47] <harha> we have some good guys working on it
[04:47] <harha> but it is not one of the "official" use cases
[04:47] <jukkaeklund> yes
[04:47] <harha> so in theory we should stop working on it ..
[04:48] <msugano_> it's looking good. what about adding it in the target on the
wiki?
[04:48] <msugano_> it's a good addition in my opinion.
[04:48] <msugano_> we have to make clear that it's not the official app coming
from the featurezilla, though.
[04:48] <harha> Thats whta I am after
[04:48] <jukkaeklund> do we have QA results on that one yet?
[04:48] <harha> msugano: What is official app ?
[04:48] <rajala_rst> Camera testing was blocked for some reason, don't recall
why
[04:48] <harha> Made by Intel ?
[04:49] <zotte> no...we need to define first what needs to be tested (what are
implemented features)
[04:49] <msugano_> harha, there was the official [FEA] for the camera
application.
[04:49] <harha> Well yes, we are pretty close to that already ..
[04:49] <jukkaeklund> well, what is official now. meegocamera is in trunk isn't
it?
[04:49] <jukkaeklund> and so is Tablet version, soon
[04:49] <harha> Yes it is ..
[04:50] <msugano_> ok, may be it's not an issue at all.
[04:50] <jukkaeklund> before we add camera as one "official" use case let's
clarify what are the features, and QA results
[04:50] <harha> I haven't seen latest tablet camera app
[04:50] <harha> so I can't compare
[04:50] <jukkaeklund> harha: fetch your ideapad from my table :)
[04:51] <harha> ok ;)
[04:51] <msugano_> harha & jukkaeklund, i was under the impression that the
official camera app comes from intel.
[04:51] <Stskeeps> harha: tablet camera app works with our camera stack as well
[04:51] <msugano_> so i just got humble by saying official.
[04:51] <jukkaeklund> yes, I just tried it today on N900
[04:52] <harha> Users should be able to decide
[04:52] <jukkaeklund> I think we should add camera as use case, it's enabled by
N900 HW adaptation and we even have choice of 2 UI apps potentially
[04:52] <harha> and they may have different needs
[04:52] <Sage> the tablet camera app works on n900
[04:52] <msugano_> everybody seems to agree to have the meegocamera on DE
anyway.
[04:52] <harha> We currently miss one important componets from stack
[04:53] <harha> but you can still use it already
[04:53] <Sage> I can use tablet camera app already
[04:53] <Sage> except the video functionality
[04:53] <jukkaeklund> though, "use" and "use in real life eg. AF, zoom" are
different things
[04:53] <Sage> when tried to record video the preview just stopped
[04:53] <Sage> jukkaeklund: true
[04:54] <harha> Sage: which one do you prefer ;) ?
[04:54] <msugano_> sorry, but time's running out, next step for the meegocamera
track?
[04:54] <jukkaeklund> so if you think camera we can get perfected with same
quality as other 3 UCs, lets have it
[04:54] <Sage> tablet ux app is nicer to look ;)
[04:54] <msugano_> i suppor having the meegocamera in the DE, next is
jukkaeklund to sendout the proposal in the ML?
[04:54] <harha> Ok, so just contatc to me if you have any issues with "common
sw"
[04:55] <jukkaeklund> yep
[04:55] <jukkaeklund> put action to me
[04:55] <msugano_> harha, thanks.
[04:55] <msugano_> #action jukkaeklund to sendout the proposal on the
meegocamera in the ML.

Re:

go#Reusing_QtMobility_1.2%27s_%22declarative_camera%22_Exa i finally got
git://gitorious.org/meego-ux/meego-app-camera.git running via meego RPMs on the
netbook platform: for details, see
"[MeeGo-dev] how to run meego-ux's meego-app-camera on MeeGo 1.2 Netbook?"
http://lists.meego.com/pipermail/meego-dev/2011-April/482509.html

http://lists.meego.com/pipermail/meego-dev/2011-April/482445.html
Given the status of the Qt Mobility 1.2 (tp) "declarative camera" example
versus this one, it makes a lot of sense to choose this codebase for
ytd-meego's camera functionality, and use the netbook platform to prototype the
application. Given the intent to run on n900 platform, and talk of convergence
between the handset and tablet-ux platforms, I'll just wait for that all to
come together while continuing to prototype on the netbook from a codebase
intended to work on all platforms.
