Email Revision Reminders - (engagement strategy) #508

why

part of the problem we are trying to solve with Quodl is improving student engagement with the learning materials. a good way of encouraging this practise of engagement is to:

Though the new feature of revising quizes can be a very useful feature in helping students retain information, it is going to live in a fairly quiet place (the module overview page / quiz overview page). So we have the better alternative (than reading old notes, re-writing essays etc) but we aren't properly presenting the alternative.

what

As part of an engagement strategy to reward students for their continued use of Quodl I want to implement a system which, 2 days after taking a Quiz in a lecture, emails students with an encouraging message and a link to revise the quiz they took (as described in https://github.com/cul-2016/quiz/issues/473).

In this way students are reminded of their awesome engagement in lectures and encouraged to revise those materials with a clear description of the costs and benefits involved e.g.:

New Email: Spend 2 minutes Revising "Contemporaries of Shakespeare" to remember it forever

In this example the student is aware of the time it will take [minimal] and the benefit they can gain [great] and it is personally targeted - having the name of the quiz they attended in the message subject.

Just wanted to mention to @harrygfox that, taking this as a starting point, at the end of each quiz, for one of my modules, I'll be manually adding any Quodl badges to the student's virtual learning environment Moodle. This automatically generates an email for the student telling them they've been given the badge - I'll use that to remind students to revise (and put in a link if I can). Could be a basic test for how happy students are receiving emails related to the quizzing.
