After looking into a few different node based forum systems, NodeBB seems to be the most suitable choice. It is easy to initially set up and allows for complete customisation through the use of plugins. Existing ones that we can use if suitable, and we can also write our own.
Creating Modules as Categories accessible only to module members - 2 days
Automatically giving lecturers privileges on modules they own - 2 days
Auto generating posts from Quodl (Stats from last week etc. This plugin will allow us to programmatically add posts to the forum) - 1.5 days
Making posts disappear after a certain time - 2 days
