Data Migration - ILL Policy #74

Open libraryfemme opened 3 years ago

libraryfemme commented 3 years ago

There is an "ILL Policy" option in FOLIO that can be set upon data migration. I am seeking more information about this issue and how we best can set this up when we migrate records, rather than after.

jwfuller commented 3 years ago

This is set for Holdings. Configuration is at /settings/inventory/ILLPolicy and is an easily editable list. The current list the default from FOLIO

Limited lending policy
Unknown lending policy
Unknown reproduction policy
Will lend
Will lend hard copy only
Will not lend
Will not reproduce
Will reproduce

Is there a field in Sierra that we want to map as part of the migration?

I just want to note that there are also options to indicate ILL policy in the License app (which would then attach to agreements/eholdings), Juleah would be the one working on these.

@jwfuller - There is no field in Sierra to indicate whether or not we lend, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately because less migration needed). Great that we can edit this list. I will start gathering information from ILL Lending about these policies.

@JuleahS - Please see Nicole's note, above. I'm interested in learning more about ILL policy in the license app.

Hi @libraryfemme , it looks like the ILL Lending policy from the Inventory app is related to print/physical holdings. So I could see things like Special Collections materials needing a lending policy. For eresources, we can set up the license terms to be as descriptive as they need to be. It would be beneficial to understand the scenarios that ILL would need to know the nuances of lending. I think we could code ours similar to the ILL policy where it says "Limited lending - print and fax copies only." I also see that we set up test license terms with each type of ILL lending, but I think I'd prefer we use a pick list model, so that we only select one type of lending model (the most restrictive or most liberal, depending on how it's written.) For example if there is a list of methods that we are allowed to lend from mailing, to fax, to secure electronic, we would only select secure electronic. Seeing the additional terms may be confusing to those needing to know how to send documents.
