OpenURL links in EDS and ILLiad Webforms #80

Open libraryfemme opened 2 years ago

libraryfemme commented 2 years ago

OpenURL links in EDS for which a patron wants to request an ILL can pass data through to the corresponding ILLiad web request form. https://support.atlas-sys.com/hc/en-us/sections/360002512853-OpenURL

@CUSeif says: "A very quick search of what documentation EDS has, it appears that the service can provide OpenURLs which can be configured so that whatever info can be transferred to the specific ILLiad form that needs to have info provided rather than having to have the patron complete the form."

This is related issue to #67. Consider merging? @jwfuller - Let's discuss this on Thursday. I need a refresher on how to merge issues in Github, and what the "tracked in" part means.

@libraryfemme will check the demo in EDS

CUSeif commented 2 years ago

In my previous experience, the platform should have an OpenURL editor that allows us to manipulate the URL generated to fit the info that we want to be exported to the form. It may not be operational in the demo due to this.

I've set it up in the demo site: https://discovery.ebsco.com/c/3czfwv. You must be on VPN, at least the first time you use this site. Please note that our electronic holdings and index is not yet set up in the demo site, nor have I been able to talk to a project manager from EBSCO yet, so this was all done with my old EDS knowledge.

I think our question is going to be when do we show this links and where, which relates to the larger question of how do we direct patrons to resources. I have a few epics around that: As a user, I need to be able to know how to get this item, so that I can use it. As a user, I need to know what to do if I can't find my item, so that I can get it and use it.

I tested an article by clicking "Request It," and it flowed into the ILLiad form beautifully: https://discovery.ebsco.com/linkprocessor/plink?id=62887e5d-a6fb-3703-b306-f493ddf42d1d

I'll keep testing with records w/different material types and from different vendors. @nleboeuftrujillo
