there is too much information in the interface.

I suggest only to show the content of the notifications and show further
options only on hover.

I made a quick mock-up.

any ideas?

I Fully agree with you.

Nevertheless, there is a big issue : making it look nicer means to create a new
"application" for every binary (mainly win32, linux32, linux64, macosx/intel).
Every platform then should have its own code.

I am currently using the Internal API of Firefox, which displays nice
notifications for Mac OS X/Growl and Linux with Gnome/KDE notifications
support, but all the functionnalities are not supported : settings menu,
closing notifications, ...

I will try to see what I can do.

I'm sure we can create something more beautiful within the restrictions of the
firefox api.

what is this api capable to do?

Square-rounded corners without transparency.

But inside the frame, I can do nearly whatever I want (it's HTML/XUL)

ubiquity can be transparent outside of the browser window. so they don't use
the firebox api?

Wow, your ubiquity doesn't look like mine ! (And I tested on windows, for a
change !)
