Unicode character encoding problem with danish letters #167

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Be located in a danish city with a special letter, like æ, ø and å.
2. Run the thing.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It working.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows, newest.

Please provide any additional information below.
'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 1-5: unsupported Unicode code range

I'm having the same problem running OS X here in Malmö, Sweden.

The same thing happens with some German cities which have umlauts in their 
names, like Würzburg (Wuerzburg). The same problem has already been reported 
as Issue 142. There, a project member named helixblue promised to "look into it 
soon". Seems that "soon" means more than 3 years :->
