Try removing 'RewriteBase /' in .htaccess file.

Same issue, new setup, all else looks fine, entries are in database, removing
rewritebase didn't help

dchaps: Can you tell me exactly what you see when visiting a shortened link?
Also if you could let me know exactly what the SITE_URL parameter in the config
is set to, and if your site is in a subdirectory of another site.
