The sharing icon definitely could be improved. I think a simpler option than adding a popup is to change the sharing icon to a mail-specific sharing icon, and then keep the hierarchy flat:
Justin, in what format would you like this icon? Should this be a mask too, or do you want the full graphic?
I'd rather stick with the default icon (which, admittedly, I had to hack up a bit to get alpha-transparent) because it's a system-wide standard for sharing on iOS. I'm more a fan of @pdgoodman's suggestion to add an action menu here, since we can branch out from there. This would work just like the trash icon prompts you first with a button.
Would it be possible to tell users where the sharing button goes? I see how just going straight to e-mail is efficient given that there's only one sharing option, but I also thought it was a little jarring to go straight to an e-mail draft when people might expect other options (tweet / e-mail / print / etc). An alternative would be to tap the sharing icon and get a pop up button that says "E-mail Snaphsot" or something similar, which would set expectations about a) where the user is going and b) how the map is shared (as a static image without interactivity).
