Add Tab Sorting to items in Unopened Window #159

I have used various window tab sorting extensions forever but now that I am TF centric, it would be nice to also sort tabs within an unopened window. Of course, for a window with a small number of tabs, it is still relatively quick and easy for me to open the window with ALL the tabs, sort and save - but it would be nice to be able to sort a window with a large number of tabs without having to open the window to do it because that is very slow - it grinds my (relatively fast) PC to a halt for some minutes . .

Sort by title, URL, other criteria, some combination? Tell me a bit more about your use case. Are you still using other extensions to sort open windows, and if so, which ones? Thanks!

For me it would be almost always sorting by URL.

I attach an image of a TF window manually sorted - for some exercises I spend a lot of time looking at lots of different options and, typically, end up with a window with so many tabs it is hard to find my way around. A help in these sorts of situations is grouping the tabs together for the different domains ie sorting the tabs by their URLs.

The current tab sorter that suits me best is:

Thanks! Sounds pretty straightforward; labeled as such.

I just thought - would there be a way of doing this by getting access to the stored data directly (while exited from the browser)? If the data is in a DB of some sort, a sort should be able to be done?

Following up my last comment - I did work out how to do what I asked but it is too much work except for unusual circumstances - I really need to be able to do it within TF . . I am guessing you are still very short of time though and not getting much help still - is it something I could help with somehow? I am guessing it might be faster for you to just do it rather than explaining a lot of things to me - but maybe it might be worth it so that I get more familiar with the code?

I would certainly appreciate the help! You are correct that there is more work than developer time.

Would you be willing to be in a Zoom recording? Maybe I could give you a live overview of the codebase sometime, and post the recording for other potential contributors' benefit.

Chris,

Back again! . . sorry about the delay - since I "retired" I have been trying to keep too many balls in the air and, this year, there have been a number of life circumstances to deal with . .

Yes, happy to do a Zoom whenever we can find a mutually convenient time. Actually it would probably help if I go and have a look at "my first chrome extension" exercise again before you start to explain things . .

Are you on Telegram? - it would be convenient for me to have chats there: AT philip UNDERSCORE rhoades
