Michel Honold has contributed an initial German Translation (thanks!):

http://code.google.com/p/wordpress-geo-mashup/source/browse/trunk/geo-mashup/lan
guages/GeoMashup-de_DE.mo
http://code.google.com/p/wordpress-geo-mashup/source/browse/trunk/geo-mashup/lan
guages/GeoMashup-de_DE.po

I'll use this issue to help keep track of issues and changes to this
translation.

Can you tell me where to put the mo-file?
In the geo-mashup-folder? Or in plugin- or language-folder?
All three versions didn't work for me...

Upps, it's too late again. I just found the language-folder in the
geo-mashup-folder...

Mmh, it seems, that the translations don't work together with the
language-switch-plugin I use.
I can change the language in wp-config.php and the geo mashup-options are in
that
language. But not, when I use the plugin and change language by clicking on a
flag...
I have to change the name to GeoMashup-de.mo because of the lang.switch-plugin,
but
that's no problem for all the other mo-files in my wp-intallation.

the language-switch-plugin only work if the translation file is in the
pluginfolder and not in a sub-folder.

In that case, I see two ways to support the language-switch-plugin:

1. Request support for sub-folders by that plugin.
2. Move language files to the root Geo Mashup folder.

I would prefer #1, but if that's unlikely I would consider #2.

In 1.2beta2 I went ahead and moved the translation files to the root geo-mashup
folder, because that seems to be the recommendation of the current WordPress
developer guide. I also attempted to build a POT file for the release.

As always, comments and updates are welcome.

I think this translation is out of date for 1.2 versions, but still mostly
functional. Any feedback or updates welcome.

This issue was updated by revision r552.

Thanks to Thomas for a fresh translation. Hopefully not too much language will
be added in 1.3.

I think I'm going to move language files back into a subdirectory in 1.4. I'm
hoping that most language plugins can handle that now - even the example in the
codex is a subdirectory
(http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_a_Plugin#Internationalizing_Your_Plugin).
