Any chance you can include wind direction too? -- https://twitter.com/alexthepuffin/status/797260458499522560

http://climate.umn.edu/snow_fence/components/winddirectionanddegreeswithouttable3.htm could be used to convert degrees into cardinal.

Hi Alex,

I'd like to keep the broadcast to 1 tweet. I'm thinking of including wind speed & direction, although it would be the first thing the script drops if it's beyond the char limit of 140. I'd like to further ask you about wind speed / direction:

  1. Any reason why wind direction and not wind speed in your request?
  2. Does knowing wind direction ahead of time influence when you will ride, what route you will take?
  3. Excluding wind chill, does wind speed affect if you will ride, when you will ride, what route you will take, what bike you will use or equipment?

This may help help me in determining:

In the back of my mind, I'm also thinking about wind gusts, which is a separate measurement in the nowcasting data. According to some cycling threads, there is higher concern for wind gust speed than wind speed.

These services are most useful if they're simple to use. That means the least amount of clutter and spam.

Here's what I think are the basic services:

I'd use this almost exclusively for preparing for bike commuting. For anything else, I'd just look it up on the web.

Here's when I'm interested in what:

I'd probably just ignore anything that's busier than 6 tweets per day. So it is a challenge to get someone with my pickiness to use it.

I know, I'm a tough customer.

I don't see how wind strength or direction affects what you will wear, if you will cycle or not or what route you will take.

Says @alexthepuffin :

My commute time is between 55-70 minutes depending on the wind. It is sometimes the deciding factor of whether I bike or not. -- https://twitter.com/alexthepuffin/status/857281089844514816?cn=cmVwbHk%3D&refsrc=email
