monitoring an indoor enviroment #7

I'm with @wgpatrick in that I'd like to do something with hardware.

how about a sensor pack for monitoring the indoor environment? the system I'm imagining is a wireless device that is carried through an indoor space and can log the time, GPS position, ambient light and CO2 levels (CO2 as a proxy for general air quality).

We'd relay this info to a base station via a simple short-range radio link. The base station would receive the data and push it to a web app. The webapp would overlay the sensor data on a map, and/or show timeseries graphs of air quality and light levels vs time. This would operate as real-time as possible, so you could walk around and watch the map update.

The pitch would be that this system could be used by a company to monitor working conditions for their employees. Maybe our webapp would recommend fixes -- like "relocate these folks into areas with more sunlight" or "install better HVAC filters."

Admittedly this has nothing to do with the topic areas suggested by the organizers..it just sounds like a fun thing to build.

Would this be an arduino project?

yosemitebandit commented 11 years ago

probably arduino though electric imp would be cool. or raspberry pi.

I think we only have arduinos handy.

Do any of us have an electric imp? They look really cool.
