Modifications adhering to awesome-list guidelines #2

I modify the readme and contributing guidelines to adhere to the awesome-list guidelines.

I also ran awesome lint:

All formatting passed! I think the remaining errors are wrong.

For the most part I did not update content. I did remove a redundant software section.
