I think that's a great idea. Is there an official or standard way to deprecate a widget within the Jupyter ecosystem?
Great! I don't think there is any special way.
First, maybe adding a comment in the readme of this widget pointing to ipycytoscape, and then archiving the repository. If this was released on PyPI, this could be marked as deprecated there.
I know that @keiono is busy right now, so I've added an initial version of the deprecation notice to the readme. Kei can take the next step once he has more time.
Thanks for the heads up, @SylvainCorlay
@maxkfranz @keiono would there be some interest in incorporating the ipycytoscape project in the cytoscape organization?
How should we engage with you to discuss something like this?
Since ipycytoscape has been transfered to this organization, it may be interesting to archive this repository, and update the link to ipycytoscape in the readme!
Howdy @keiono @maxkfranz and other cytoscape people
I am a Jupyter maintainer, especially active in the Jupyter widgets ecosystem.
I wanted to bring your attention to the ipycytoscape project which was spearheaded by @marimeireles in the past couple of months.
Would you be interested in deprecating cytoscape-jupyter-widgets (which has not been developed in the past couple of years) and pointing users interested in a Jupyter-cytoscape integration to the ipycytoscape project?
And I would be happy to meet over video if you are interested in discussing this in more details.
