What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. send /help
2. it just won't get it
3.  - Unsupported command

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expected same thing like webways. instead slash bugs

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
client Empathy 2.28.1 posix class

Please provide any additional information below.
may sniff transportlayers onwards

I have the same problem using empathy.  I also run my own appengine instance and
experience the same problem.  The "text_message" handler works fine in all 
cases, but
the commands with the "/" prefix do not work on multichat, crowdguru, or my own 
app
engine instance.  Will try to echo back the raw xml stanza back to myself with 
an IM
client that works and compare to empathy for differences.

Try using /say or /quote in front of your command:

   /say /tellme the meaning of life
