Tested on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.

Can't download snort from http://snort.org, but if I add "www" the script continues like it should.

This bit me as well, solved by adding www

Folks, thank you very much for reporting this issue and notifying me of a fix. This issue has been resolved across all platforms. I have tested it on my testbed here in the lab, but please verify.
