This seems to work for 'pcre-8.45' download from Sourceforge.net/projects/pcre/files/pcre/8.45. Change line 183 to pcre_latest=pcre-8.45
Change line 266 to wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcre/files/pcre/8.45/pcre-8.45.tar.gz &>> $logfile
Hey Jon,
I was on-break when you sent me this message. First, thanks for reporting this issue. Second, I've resolved the issue and directed the script to pull the latest download for the PCRE 1 library source files from sourceforge. I've tested the script with these new changes, and it appears to be working now. Thanks once again for reporting this problem, and I hope you have a happy holiday.

Thank you for your help and also for providing a ‘problem-solving opportunity’ for me to work around the issue…which did work btw. 😊
In my ‘day job’ as CISO, I don’t get a lot of opportunity lately to work at the shell script level, but I have been interested in building out a home lab just to try to be a little more informed. I bought Tony Robinsons’ ‘Building Virtual Machine Labs: A Hands-on Guide’ and bumped into the issue when using the Autosnort3 script.
Kudos to you and your project.

Autosnort3-Ubuntu.sh is giving me an error when trying to pull latest PCRE libraries directly from FTP server. The URL https://ftp.pcre.org/pub/pcre/ is not resolving for me. I did find source at 'https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcre/files/pcre/8.45/pcre-8.45.tar.gz' but my shell scripting fu is pretty weak right now. Can this path be substituted in a future update?
