My pcb design was flipped, so I ended up just using a breadboard. I have the 3d models I made on tinkercad, and can send them to you if needed. On a side note, this fork isn't needed anymore, Bo Zimmerman included the LED support in the mainline zimodem firmware now.
Thanks for the reply and information!
Do I still need a SN74LS244N and MAX3237/3238? Also, do you recommend a 3237 or 3238? I can't tell much of a difference between them?
The buffer is required, or else the esp unit won't boot. As for the serial adapter, you will need something that gets you enough lines, either a Pololu 23201a Serial Adapter type or something similar. The unit I bought is currently out of stock, (the mdfly one)
I might get back to this in the next month or so, things have just been busy.
I have a Pololu module but I’ve seen several people mention having problems so that’s why I was asking about the max3237 vs 3238 and building my own adapter
I built one using a max235 I've had in the parts bin for years. But any 5 transmitter/3 receivers unit should be ok. The esp8266 is 5v tolerant, but since you are making your own, choose a 3.3v compatible unit. The 3238 has the auto powerdown circuit, I don't see any reason why you would need that in this kind of project.
started another issue.. but basically doing the same thing. Looking for some direction.
Hey, this is an amazing conversion project!
Do you have any of your PCBs for sale to make the install look clean like yours? (I also have a Pololu RS232 adapter but it's unfortunate so many people seem to have problems with it)
Do you also have the 3D print files for your antenna and other brackets?
