Is there some way to make this driver work with DynamoDb datasource, other than AWSDataCatalog?

Custom data sources are supported as of v1.5.0 of this driver. That said, Athena is officially supported by Metabase! This driver was merged in with that functionality, so feel free to give Metabase v0.45 a try!
