PrivateNotes?
CleverNote?
I kind of like CleverNote.
also, for brainstorming: connote, denote, noteworthy, nota bene
Well, now I like connote. The others are pretty good too.
.coms are unsurprisingly unavailable for all of those. The .io domains are available for most of them, but kind of expensive.
What about PrivyNote?
[Anglo-French privé, from Old French, intimate, confidant, from privé intimate, familiar, from Latin privatus private]: one having privity; esp: one who acquires an interest in the subject matter (as property) of prior or pending litigation and is bound by the judgment as if he or she were a party to the action Privy in Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law:
@vermouthdaddy I get where you're coming from on that (i.e. "whether one is privy to that information") but I'm pretty sure privy is used as a term for a toilet too. :)
@daed Actually it is the U.K.'s Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council that comes to my mind when thinking about this. Whatever you want 🤣
Anybody knows if Laverna got it's name from the Roman goddess?
I had assumed that was the source of the name, but I don't know for sure.
Tossing this out there: Do we really need a new name through? What about Laverna Rebooted or something
@violentmagician Initially I didn't want a new name, but my lack of access to the original repo and website led me to consider it more thoroughly. I actually initially set out with "LavernaNG" in mind and set up the Dropbox api key that way when I started working on that section of the code.
I'm becoming increasingly concerned however that the laverna github project makes it look "more official" in spite of the fact that it's dead in the water. Additionally, I will never be able to update laverna.cc, so it will remain stagnant on whatever version is currently running on it. These things could easily damage the reputation of the project and/or create a uBlock vs uBlock Origin situation.
Further supporting this is that still, in spite of my issue posted about forking and @funilrys's considerable efforts in spreading word where he can, there has not been a single issue opened in this fork other than my own, and that undermines pretty much every benefit that using github provides us with since I can't directly close issues, associate them with a commit, accept PR's (unless they come here, which no one has) and so on.
If you have any ideas on how to better manage that, I'd be super interested in hearing them. I just can't think of a better way. Otherwise, I think I've decided on "Connote". I have set up a github org/project at https://github.com/connote-team/connote in preparation for the name change, though I haven't done anything with it yet. None of this is set in stone, so dissenting opinions are certainly welcome.
@daed I've been recently introduced to laverna and was sad to see such an awesome app not being maintained.
Super appreciate the work you're doing here. If it becomes Connote, then I'm going to start using that. I hope this turns out to be a great project!
My first thought was "Lava Note" because of the history to Laverna.
I spent the weekend thinking about this. I changed my mind on "connote". I like the name, but every time I've described it to someone and said the name out loud ("Con note") I've found myself realizing that I'm asking people to put their trust in something that begins with the word "con".
After kicking the idea around all weekend, I think I've settled on the name "Encryptic". Doesn't have notes in it, but it's still a pretty appropriate and descriptive name.
I've also put together a new icon:
Finally, because I've just being going back and forth on this, I registered a domain to lock in the choice, so that I won't find an excuse to want to change the name again: encryptic.org
New repo/codebase: https://github.com/encryptic-team/encryptic
I've made some css / branding changes to the code there, and I've done a decent amount of refactoring. I'm going to make one release of laverna and then all new code development will be done there.
Also, if anyone wants to help out with this, by all means drop me a line!
Hi @daed sounds good :+1: Do you plan to distribute a pre-release soon ? Will look at the AUR package tomorrow (Berlin Time)
This repo is still a fork of the main one. I don't have any ownership on the main project, so duplicating it is a necessity. Should the new project operate under a different name? What should that name be?
