What about making the item template into a Visual Studio extension and upload it to the Visual Studio extension gallery? If I'm allowed, I volonteer to do so.

If you know how to do this, that would be a great contribution to the project. If you do it, please provide me instructions on how to update it and any information on what conditions would require an update. Thanks!

Like I said, you can edit/update it using VSIX explorer.

The conditions that would require an update are when you update the template. I've basically just packaged your template into VSIX, nothing more, nothing less.
