Keep Together, Keep Next

Braille formatting rules stipulate that certain elements of text must be kept together on the same braille page.

For all heading levels:

• If there is insufficient space on a page for the heading, followed by any required blank line and at least one line of text, the heading must be moved to the next braille page.
• This issue is still relevant in electronic files where page numbers are included. How can CSS be used to keep headings and at least the first line of the following text on the same braille page?

Some other cases where keep together applies:

• in bar-over-bar music, all the lines of a musical system should be kept together (e.g. right hand should not be separated from left hand in piano music)
• there may be instances where it is desirable that a table should be kept together
• There may be instances where it is desirable that the text of each item in a list should be kept together

Other cases for keep with next include:

• In the UK, the last line of the last paragraph should be kept with any following horizontal marker - that is, a horizontal marker should not be the first line of a new page.
• If a horizontal marker is followed by a designation such as "end of v#3" or "The end" (of the entire document) these should be kept together.

In these latter two cases, the last line of the paragraph is moved to the start of the new page.
