Weather Alert widget not working #2148

Describe the bug The weather alert feature/block is not displaying alerts when they happen

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. National weather service issues alert
  2. weather alert block is installed on a dakboard, with no schedule, and not blocked by a layer on top of it

Expected behavior Expect the alert to display in the configured spot of the board once the alert has been issued and the board has had time to refresh

Screenshots N/A - the alert block is just a blank space with nothing in it

Device Type (please complete the following information):

DAKboard OS Version (please complete the following information): OS was installed around June 1 2024

Additional context The alerts were not displaying previously when a tornado alert was active in my area. At that time I tried deleting the block and re-adding it with the same configuration. The alert populated when I did that. Today we have a heat alert and nothing is displaying. I tried to delete and re-add again, but that did not change anything. The block remains empty. the heat alert is active for July 2, 2024, 12:00 pm 37064. I have tried sourcing the alerts from both apple weather and weatherbit, neither works.

Thank you for letting us know about the issue you are experiencing and apologies for the inconvenience it has caused. In order to analyze what is happening, we will need to know the location being entered for the weather alert. Being able to review the configuration for the Screen that the block is on may also help. In the ticket, please reference this Issue Number (2148) and let us know your DAKboard Username, along with which Screen is experiencing the problem, and the Location that is configured in the Weather Alert block so we can take a look.

Hello @Dan-Peck - the issue seems to just be a delay. Eventually (maybe an hour later) the alert showed up. If I experience another issue with it I will be sure to open the ticket (assuming that is okay). For now I think you can close this out. Unless you think a delay is not normal and want to investigate further :) OS is 4.02 btw.

Hi @allhuggermugger - Thank you for taking the time to quickly write us an update on this! The Weather Alerts block currently has an update frequency of about 20 minutes so in general it should not take any longer than that.

Yes, as you monitor its operation, if you feel there is still an issue, please feel free to re-open this Issue, and/or submit a ticket with the additional details and we can look into it further.
