Not working at all #15

Despite the instructions being for an older Alexa dev dashboard, I was able to configure everything as it should be and created the build successfully.

However, this isn't working for me at all. When speaking to an echo device "tell Viper to start the car", "tell Viper to lock the car", or any other commands, Alexa responds with "securing your vehicle" and "ladies and gentlemen, start your engines" however nothing actually happens.

I do have an idea of what might be the problem, but I'm not completely sure. While navigating and trying to log into mysmartstart.com, since I'm in Canada, I get an error saying to login to mysmartstart.ca. I'm thinking perhaps the commands of the heroku app here are forwarding requests to the .com URL instead of .ca and that might be causing issues.

If this is indeed the problem, could a flag be created in the heroku config to select if your URL should be .com or .ca?

I'll definitely donate if we can get this thing working! :)

Mine sometimes does not work if the smart start has gone to sleep. Open your smart start app and check you have signal showing next to your car name I the top right of the app. If it shows no signal it wont work. Tap on the map icon and wait for signal to appear then try Alexa again.

Thanks for the reply. The app has signal, and to test it I even unlocked / lock it through the app just before trying Alexa. Has dale3h abandoned this project?

delboydell commented 4 years ago

I dont know if he abandoned it, But i did have a few problems like you , i was getting the announcements from alexa but no nothing at the car. I seem to remember having to change my country setting in the alexa developer code as I am in the uk. Perhaps take a look at that area ? Mine is still working today.

I tried changing the language (as well as adding a language) here Is this the section you're referring to?

Unfortunately, this made no difference for me. Still getting the prompts from Alexa, however still nothing happening with the car... Pretty disappointing, I've been eyeing this Alexa skill for a while now and it's partially how I convinced my wife to let me buy the SmartStart addon in the first place. :(

I would have to look tonight when I get home but I believe it was a setting later on in the skill set up

Did you find anything?

delboydell commented 4 years ago

just looked back through the old posts and I followed this guys rewrite of the walk through https://github.com/jaspersardonicus/alexa-smartstart/tree/patch-1 and it was the default language I changed to English UK , it had to match your alexas location voice, check what it is set to in the alexa app on your phone.

Sigh. Gave that a shot (pretty sure I had actually tried setting different locations before) but unfortunately it's still not working for me. Getting the reply of "ladies and gentlemen, start your engines", but nothing else is happening...

Same thing here... I'm sure it's calling the US server and not the canadian version... plus I'm uncertain about how safe it is to input my car data in the app? Probably need to use the PHP version of this on GIT and build it ourselves :(

dominicanodcora commented 3 years ago

I am having the same issue. It was working before. all of a sudden i tried it today and i hear alexa saying locking car but no actions and no failed command. I am in the US as well.

Ok, I see no one responded to this post since July 22, 2020... however, I just tried this and followed all instructions, Alexa makes the commands and responds but nothing happens. I'm within the USA. Anyone have any ideas?

Same problem, no ideas. @dale3h clearly doesn't care about, or wants to maintain this anymore.

It's a shame. It was working for me before and now it's not. I'm also in the states.

The skill is still working fine here in the UK. I would imagine its the programming of the alexa skill that has changed a bit since the instructions were wrote. When I set it up the page layouts were not the same. There was a fork with better instructions have you followed that?

I think so, I tried pretty much everything I could find online at the time. Which fork are you referring to specifically?

The instructions are fine because it was working for me and I did not make any changes. It just stopped working from one day to another. Unless that Amazon change you talking about ruined it.
