Add MediaInfo (and Logos) Support #17

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The MediaInfo project (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en) has a DLL
distribution that can be integrated into other applications. This would
allow the retrieval of media file information such as codec, actual
runtime, horizontal and vertical resolution (and in turn aspect ratio), and
many other pieces of information. This should be integrated in the import
process to allow the user to better sort through their media via the filter
and grouping system (in progress).

This functionality is already implemented in the TV-Series MediaPortal
plug-in. It might be beneficial to use this implementation as a guide.

What about adding an "IMDB Top 250" logo to the movies that's in the list? It
should
indicate a good quality movie :)

Why do you keep postponing this? =(

Original comment by Ver...@gmail.com on 14 Dec 2008 at 7:44

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This was not postponed we just changed how we are labeling our releases. It is
still
the same number of releases away as before, and if anything this will probably
end up
getting moved up to 1.0 rather than 1.1.

Basically though we just came up with some standards about how we wanted to
increment
our version numbers that make more sense with the state of the product. Sorry
for the
confusion. :( Rest assured, this is an important feature for us. But it is
largely an
aesthetic change rather than a functional one, and because of that it is lower
on the
priority list.

Here is the old to new version numbers:
0.6.5 -> 0.7
0.7.0 -> 0.8
0.7.5 -> 1.0
0.8.0 -> 1.1
1.0.0 -> 2.0

Original comment by conrad.john on 14 Dec 2008 at 9:18

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Aah okay :)
Surely it's just an aesthetic change, but it is the most starred issue here.
Great news that it's just change in labelling.
Keep up the good work, really appreciate it!

In some video file formats (specifically matroksa), language information can be
pulled from each audio track. When looking at what meta-data we should pull
from a
video file, we should definitely look into this.

Perhaps this issue should be split up into 2 enhancements:
1) MediaInfo support: show 720p/1080p, AC3/DTS, etc. info on the skin
AND
2) Logo support à la TvSeries

To me these seem like 2 distinct features. I would love to have the MediaInfo
enhancement sooner rather than later. I don't care much for the logos but
really
would love to know if a movie I have is 720p or 1080p, DTS or AC3, etc.

Original comment by muneebma...@gmail.com on 24 Feb 2009 at 3:27

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
@muneebmaster, to the plugin, I think the two presentation formats really are
the
same. If the plugin exposes something like #MovingPictures.SoundFormat, a skin
can
either display this in plain text, or use it to reference a graphic. There is
nothing more the plugin needs to do in order to support the graphic logos.

Original comment by travistx on 24 Feb 2009 at 3:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Just remember to make the logo feature highly configuration able - a logo that
seems
unnecessary for some, may be considered important for others.

For example, I don't like to see if a movie is encoded in MPEG2, MPEG4 or
AVC... For
me it's sufficient to see either XVID, 720p or 1080p. Others may think just the
opposite...

With 1.0.1 (+mediainfo wrapper) released we should consider doing this for 0.8 -
would be a nice touch for the autogenerated filters based on these
attributes.One
thing i'm missing in the mediaportla wrapper is that it doesn't have a property
for
length :S

Original comment by apond...@gmail.com on 11 Apr 2009 at 10:33

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I also would ask to move this enhancement up the chain of food for 0.8 if
possible.
It's probably the most asked for improvement in the forums.

Thanks again for developing this awesome plugin.

hi i got a skinner alpha build from john

and i tested the logo support but now my questions is i want to let the logo
show up
if the movie is 1080p or 720p and i saw it picks the logo from the

#MovingPictures.LocalMedia.videoresolution.png

but when i check the moving pictures config video resolution in that area
stands SD
or HD is it somehow possible that it pics the logo from video width so if :
width is
1280 - 720p logo shows up or if width is 1920 - 1080p logo shows up

i changed the video resolution manual to HD 720P with one movie and then the
720p
logo shows up but then i have to change all the video resolution boxes to HD
720P or
HD 1080P cause now it only shows SD or HD

so is it maybe possible that it picks the logo from the video width as desribed
above
cause think many want to display if a movie is 720P that a 720P logo shows up
and with 1080P a 1080P logo shows up

Original comment by rico.reinders@gmail.com on 27 Apr 2009 at 3:46

Hi Rico. The possible values for the videoresolution field are "SD" "HD" "720p"
"1080i" or "1080p"

There are other fields with a limited set of values, which I have added to the
skin
designers guide here:

I just read through the skin developers guide and I'm missing something rather
important.There isn't a "SOURCE" label available yet?!

You could use a Field like "#MovingPictures.LocalMedia.Source" with possible
Values:
HDTV (string: hdtv|pdtv), DVD (string: DVDRip|sddvd|DVDScr|DVDR|R5), BluRay
(string:Blu-ray|BluRay|BD5|BD9), HDDVD (string: HDDVD)

PS: Mediainfo.dll should search the filename for the strings

I am not sure how I feel about this Vergo. To begin with what you are
suggesting has
nothing to do with mediainfo.dll support. You are asking for us to strip
information
from "scene tags" which is quite a bit different. If you would really like to
see
this implemented I suggest you create a new issue for it. Honestly though I am
not
sure how comfortable I am in implementing something that would only benefit
this type
of content...

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
TV Series plugin & XMBC has this implemented as well tho..
I'm not sure how they did it, but I thought mediainfo.dll did it :-)
The thing is, only the user knows where their movies come from. There's no way
to
know from the mkv/avi if it's a HDDVD/BluRay/DVD/HDTV so I added those tags to
my
filenames.
The benefit is that I'm always looking for the best quality, so I need to
redownload
HDTV releases etc.. also it's a nice touch:

VergoK: You can't really use that feature. I have renamed all my series, so no
benefit from that at all. And often people rename, so don't think it possible.

Original comment by Steffa...@gmail.com on 6 May 2009 at 9:46

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
VergoK, again, if this is something you feel strongly about create a new issue
and we
can discuss there. This is not the appropriate place to have this dialog, this
is not a
forum, this is an issue thread for mediainfo support.

Original comment by conrad.john on 6 May 2009 at 2:37

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Steffan: no one obligates you to rename your files. It's like an extra feature
for
those who want it.

John, not to step on any toes, but I really think this IS the right issue.
(this is the Mediainfo (and Logos) support.)

MediaInfo parses a file and analyses everything, it is able to output the
filename
AFAIK. (correct me if i'm wrong) IMHO it's stupid to create another issue for 1
logo,
which could be done along with the other logos.

This is just my POV, I'll stop harassing you (and this issue) about it from now
on ;-)

Original comment by Ver...@gmail.com on 6 May 2009 at 3:23

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Maybe I have not made myself clear. Mediainfo support has to do with pulling
media
information from a video file itself. What codec does it use, what is the codec
resolution, if it is an mkv file does it have embedded subtitles. This is
conceptually
and programmatically different from parsing information from a filename. I
realize that
the two features are related because they would both be used by the "logo
system", but
they are very distinct enhancements.

As I said before I am not sure I am very comfortable about implementing an
enhancement
with the express purpose of reading "scene" tags in a file name, but if you
feel
strongly about it, CREATE A NEW ISSUE and we can discuss. We will NOT be
lumping in a
possible new enhancement into an issue that is already almost completed and
only
tangentially related though.

So again, if you want to see this issue implemented, create a new issue and we
can
discuss. I will be deleting any further off topic posts in this issue thread
though.

Hi

Im storing my Bluraycollection in mkv containers with the HDaudio converted to
FLAC.
is flac logos going to be supported? it seems that its not supported by the
mediawrapper right now.
Have no idea why, seems like most other format is. the mediainfo dll clearly
supports FLAC,so does
mptvseries.

thanks for all your effort!
