Add search function (new interface for remote filtering) #410

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
a global search function over all movies would be very nice. only sorting
does not help a lot if you have more than 2000 movies.

Hrmm... well you can currently filter the list of movies by a search string
using
remote filtering. See the following link. Maybe we could add an on screen
keyboard
(or flat out keyboard support) for "remote filtering" this would effectively be
a
search option...

http://tinyurl.com/cf8e8z

I'll keep this open, I can definately see the value in a keyboard interface for
"remote filtering" interface. To provide a quick sort/jump to feature. This I
think
will have to wait a while though unless there is a lot of demand for it...

Maybe we could have a "Search" menu item that would bring up the onscreen
keyboard.
The guts would work the same as the "remote filtering" but this would be much
easier
and more strait forward for new users. And advanced users could contnue to use
cell
phone style filtering with their remote control.

Indeed. I'm using the Logitech diNovo mini w/ 800+ movies. pgup/dn is too
slow.. a
'always present' filter input box at the base of the screen would be ideal

One of the things I am missing mostly in this plugin, is search. How cool would
it be
to be able to search for a movie, actor or an director with a viruel keyboard
on
screen? Filtering is just not as good, and you can not find movies with
specific actors
or directors.

this definitely has my vote. i use an adesso media keyboard and i wish that i
could
put all of those letter keys to use, especially in a library of over 1,000
videos.
pagedown key be damned!

+1. I have a diNovo Mini keyboard and I will like to be able to use the keys
instead
of scrolling through the database. I think that the remote filtering is perfect
for
remote users, but what about us? Thanks for all the Moving Pictures team, you
are
doing an awesome work! Regars.

the remote keys.

for

Hello all...

first sorry about English.
I use Moving Pictures along time and for my sadness the developers of this
brilliant plug-in never include a search function.
I know there are some ways to search movies like remote control filter with
number keys or press shift key while typing the name of the film but I´d like
to see old fashion search box like the MyFilms plug-in. (See the snapshots
below)

There is a chance to create a search box function on Moving Pictures?

who would like to see a search function in Moving Pictures? I bet innumerable
of users want this.
If i can create a poll with this question, innumerable users vote for a yes! If
you want too see this function reply this post with a YES!

Developers, please think about...

as a dev i would like to second the recent attention this issue is getting an
perhaps vote to push this to 1.1.

on a technical note:
imho, a user would be able to search through the entire db disregarding the
current active filters (except for the parental control). Search result will be
displayed as any other category (using a realtime [field contains text]
filter). This would be different from the remote filtering which you could
still could afterwards to further trim down the initial results. I currently
don't see any technical difficulties implementing such a solution.

I am fine with pulling search forward a few releases but there is *no way* it
will make it into version 1.1. That release is already over crowded and _we are
going to have to drop some currently scheduled issues as it is_. Adding new
features will not help any.

And as for searching over the whole database apondman, I understand your
reasoning but I am a bit hesitant... almost every function every menu and
sidebar operates on the current context: filter or sort the movies on screen,
cycle the cover art for the selected movie, etc.

If we can find a logical place to fit a global search into the interface nicely
I am fine with this, I just want to make sure the option doesn't confuse anyone.

This function is still scheduled to version 1.2.0?
You can not schedule for a version closer to the current 1.0.8?

My database of movies grows ever more (already exceeds the 2000 movie) and use
the current method is complicated and takes a long time.
As you know, most movies begin with "The". I have hundreds of movies beginning
with "The" example: The Lord of the Rings, The A-Team, The Town, etc ...
Now imagine what it is to scroll a hundred films. This is just one example but
there are many more.
So, if it were technically possible to do a search box like the MyFilms plug-in
would make the search easier and with the exact name.
I've already signed this petition twice.
Programmers, make an effort for this option exists in a version as soon as
possible please!
Many thanks for all the work that has been wonderful with the Moving-Pictues.
Regards.

I definitely need this feature, too. I'm using a keyboard for navigation and
typing the number keys to do a text entry is not very comfortable. At least it
should be possible to type the actual letter keys to do the remote filtering.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I have gone ahead and scheduled this for
Moving Pictures 1.3 so we will try to get this in with the next major features
release.

In the meantime, for what its worth the remote filtering functionality as well
as general category navigation is MUCH faster in Moving Pictures 1.1.5 and
1.2.3. We have a release candidate for both and they will be released in the
next day or so.
