My Archos 101 is wifi only and I never received this error. Perhaps this issue
is Honeycomb related?

Me too. I was able to sideload it without issue, though. It seems that the
Market is the only thing blocking it.

Thank you for the tip. To install the application, simply go into the download
section and download the apk file. You xoom tablet will recognize the file type
and install it. It is a simple as that.

It may have something to do with the phone access permissions required by the
app... maybe an alternate version without the phone related functionalities
would do the trick.

Indeed. If the devs were to remove the phone and SMS permissions from the
manifest.xml file prior to compilation, I believe that would have a good chance
to solve the problem.
Now, whether or not that would throw permission denied exceptions throughout
the app would be another issue. =p After using the app for several weeks,
though, I don't see anything that seems to use that functionality directly.

Google has posted an article for optimizing existing apps for Honeycomb. I'm
linking to the telephony anchor, which I believe is the problem from XBMC
remote.
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/optimizing-for-3.0.html#Telephony
The telephony feature should be optional, and the app should check for this
feature at runtime before offering the SMS and pause phone state.
