For reference GitHub forms don't offer the ability to create an org on the fly.
I kinda think we need to keep that ability, though, since the first action an organizer will likely want to take with our site is "create an event" and not "create an organization". I think separating them would add friction and create a fall-off point in the workflow. Maybe the button to create an org could be smaller and styled more like a helpful link than a button, though.
SHIT I KNOW WHAT IT IS. The "Add an Organization" button is just begging to be pressed, no matter what. I wonder if we can move that behavior into a "New Organization" option in the dropdown instead.
I got a second piece of feedback on this form that also makes sense, which is that instead of displaying organization name, it displays the organization slug, in an attempt to preview what the URL would look like. A less tech savvy user might think "Wait a second, my organization is called 'My Dance Org', not 'my-dance-org.' I better create a new organization with the correct name."
Perhaps a better form would have a dropdown to select the org before the URL preview and include an option to create a new organization in that menu.
An organizer ran into this today again. I agree this definitely needs some work. All your ideas sound great.
One organizer, who I consider fairly tech-savvy, was tripped up by the new event form and accidentally created a new organization instead of using an existing organization. Looking at the form, it could definitely be cleaned up a bit, but it actually looks fairly clear to me:
However, I did notice when I first loaded the page the was a brief flash of the hidden form fields
I wonder if the confusion occurred because the form displayed wrong initially or maybe the "add an organization" button was hit accidentally? I think there are two solutions here:
