Bluetooth not sending song info - Android O #822

Open JoeDat opened 7 years ago

Running version 5.3.5, in the beta tester Google Play program.

After upgrading to Android O, Bluetooth connections are not sending text based information to the Bluetooth endpoint. I observed this on both Microsoft Sync (in a 2014 Ford F-150), as well as a factory bluetooth receiver in a Toyota Highlander. The displays in both vehicles show generic "Unknown/No Audio" text.

I confirmed that both vehicles do display information over Bluetooth when playing from Pandora, so it doesn't seem to be a global BT compatibility issue on Android O.

I am having the same issue since upgrading to O. Other apps (pocketcasts, google play music) correctly send the text info to the car display.

I am having the same problem as well since updating to Oreo

Update: The problem seems intermittent with DSub. Sometimes the text will display, sometimes not. During one playback, I started off with text and thought I must've gotten an update since it was working. Then, seemingly randomly, reverted to displaying Unknown. Been trying to figure out if there's a pattern to it, but so far I'm coming up short.

For me with a 2014 Toyota Prius, the problem is all the time. Since updating to Oreo I have yet to see any text displayed besides "Unknown Artist", "Unknown Album".

Update: After further testing and googling, I think it is an Android Oreo issue. I was able to get song information working a little better by un pairing and then re-pairing the phone with bluetooth. After doing this, most of the time the correct song info is displayed. Every once in a while Unknown Artist and Unknown Album is displayed still. Other apps like Plex were also having the same issues.

I can confirm that after updating to Android 8, dsub doesn't sending music meta data over Bluetooth. I've tested various other music player and they seem to work fine.

I can confirm this on android 8 on a new Pixel 2 XL, i also had this issue on 8 /w my Nexus 6P

I have a Pixel 2 coming soon that I should be able to test this on

Did this issue resolve itself? I have a One Plus 5 and just updated to OOS 5.0 (Android 8) and I just started seeing this issue.

For what it's worth, I also have this issue on a Pixel XL, but it doesn't happen all the time, and a reboot fixes it. I'm inclined to agree with @sea3pea0

I can confirm that the song metadata is not being displayed in both our cars (Ford Explorer and Mazda CX-5). In both cases the phone is a One+ 5 that is on OOS 5.0.1 (Android 8). In both cars the display of metadata over Bluetooth worked perfectly before Android 8. Let me know if there is any debug logs that I can capture to help diagnose the issue.

Something I've noticed lately is that song info works fine for me up until I either make or receive a bluetooth phone call
