I do think this is a good idea and we should be pushing WebM as much as possible. I think that for the default presets we should limit the number we ship, so I'm thinking of leaving in the original Nexus preset, which also works for the Nexus S, but keeping the possibility open of user-contributed WebM presets for other newer Android devices through the transcoder.org website. At some point in the future we would stop shipping the Nexus One preset and instead ship the Nexus S by default, but I'm not sure if it's too soon to do that.
It would be great to add a "Nexus S" preset inside the "Android" preset.
I mainly report this to raise that we should ideally be moving to using WebM for any device that supports it, even if those devices also support H.264. Not only is it likely to be a focus for Google/Android (being its format), but it is an open/patent-free codec that we should probably be encouraging, as an open source project.
With new devices running 2.3 from the beginning, this is easy. It will be more difficult figuring out what to do with old devices (such as my Desire) that are updated to 2.3 in the future.
