Can you use any multimedia applications without your system rebooting? Maybe this is a heat issue?

I can use AcidRip, Banshee and pretty much anything else. I have just tried Arista again and two things happened. The first was that trying to rip a DVD it failed (getting only the 'leader' bit on one try and then moaning about not having a valid file on the second). The second was trying to convert and exiisting AVI and after a couple of minutes it also caused the whole system to re-boot.
I think this is a heat issue too, I've used it on two Natty computers and it worked just fine for me...
Title says it all. I have a new installation of Ubuntu 11.04. When I start Arista it goes through the right process (default settings) and I see a few minutes of the ripping process before it crashes Ubuntu - the next thing I see is my PC rebooting. Pity, it was looking very nice and simple.
