You shouldn't need to worry about the aspect ratio for the 2nd gen iPod Touch - the iPod itself will scale the video and add black bars as necessary. You will get the video scaled to fit inside the maximum dimensions that the iPod supports (640x480 or maybe 720P). Is there another reason you want to change the aspect ratio, such as a video not converting properly or displaying properly?
The thing is that the screen is in itself tiny, so if you also add black bars... you lose your sight. You can also zoom in, but then the movie look so unnatural. Your best choice is changing the aspect ratio, since 3:2 is very close to 16:9 and 4:3. That´s what I always did in windows, but I can´t find the way of doing this in Arista.
I'm changing this to a feature request issue. This behavior is currently not supported in Arista as it always keeps the original aspect. An option could be added to disable adding black bars which would then force the aspect to change if you set a very specific output width/height. I'll take a look at adding something like this.
Thank you very much. I finally had to convert lots and lots of videos with windows, but next time I will be able to do it with arista. It´s much faster and comfortable!
I´m Spanish and a little bit noob so sorry for my ignorance. I would like to convert a video to a video specifically thought for my Ipod touch 2nd gen. That means an special aspect ratio (3:2). With the 0.9.6 version you couldn´t do this, I think, but in the new 0.9.7 version you have the possibility of changing the presets and adding codec´s options. So I have thought that taking this preset http://www.transcoder.org/media/presets/ipod.tar.bz2 and adding some option to the codec I would finally get it, am I right?
If not, is there any other chance? And since I want a video that exactly fits with the Iphone, shouldn't I set the same maximum and minimum height and wide with the exact measures of the Iphone screen?
