Umm it's been awhile since I've looked but I'm not sure, it would definitely help the recognition process. I actually thought it did all the transformations of the image for you, but they may not have been pushed to github. If you can get it running you can probably just check pretty easily. I based my face dataset of the AT&T face database. So just google that and download there one and then just copy it. I think it says the dimensions they used.
