you could probably apply a material to it, i haven't tried it. look into the source 2013 sdk and find how skins are loaded. replicate it but with your own skin.

Not quite sure if this would help but ik that this cheat can change cvars so possibly add a sv_pure 0 tick then add a model changer for weapons and make your skin a custom model.
